The Multiplier event and Workshop in Pécs took place in June 2023.
University of Pécs hosted a multiplier event/symposium centered on innovations and challenges in anatomy education. With participants from Masaryk University, Brno; University of Zagreb; Karolinska Instituet and the University of Cambridge, the event offered a collaborative environment where educators and researchers explored student-centered teaching methods, constructive alignment, and the management of mental health for students navigating the demanding field of anatomy. During the event participants could share important findings of LEANBODY project within the community of anatomists.
The event focused on the following main topics:
- Teaching traditions in Anatomy Departments of Masaryk University (Brno), University of Zagreb and University of Pécs
- Quality of Student-Centered Pedagogy with Constructive Alignment. Constructive alignment, an educational framework aligning learning outcomes, teaching activities, and assessment methods, was a central theme. Presenters shared how their departments implement this approach to promote active learning, where students not only absorb information but also apply it practically. Case-based learning, structured debates, and peer assessment were highlighted as effective methods to foster deeper comprehension. Feedback indicated that when applied consistently, constructive alignment contributes to increased student satisfaction and improved academic performance.
- Management of Mental Health Through Learning Anatomy. Anatomy is a challenging field, and the impact of its rigor on students’ mental health has become a significant concern. Presenters shared findings on student well-being, noting that academic pressure in medical universities can lead to burnout. Methods to alleviate these pressures include increased peer support, access to mental health resources, and structured feedback sessions.
The event included a workshop and several social events as well, creating informal spaces for further discussions and collaboration. Evening gatherings provided participants from Brno, Zagreb, Cambridge, and Pécs the opportunity to exchange teaching strategies, discuss challenges, and form connections. These events strengthened ties among colleagues, fostering a sense of community and mutual support across institutions.
The events highlighted the importance of innovation in anatomy education, with a shared focus on student-centered teaching, mental health, and cross-institutional collaboration.
Both the workshop and the multiplier event were fruitful for the partnership.
